I look forward to every holiday because I love what each of them bring: time with family, yummy food and seasonal decor of course! My mom went all out with each holiday hence why me and my sister are who we are lol.
My sister hosts Thanksgiving every year now, and let me tell you, she does not disappoint!
WHAT I BRING:
I always love surprising her with a thoughtful hostess gift, last year it was a personalized faux pumpkin with her “new” last name on it and this year my mom and I found a stunning vintage serving platter with a traditional turkey embossed on it.
In terms of food, I bake my Dulce de Leche Apple Pie for all to enjoy!
I especially love this recipe because it combines our Argentinian heritage (dulce de leche) and Canadian traditions (apple pie) together in the yummiest way.
- 5 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 lemon
- ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 package (14.1 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts (you can make your own pie crust but ain't nobody got time for that)
- 1 jar of San Ignacio Dulce de Leche
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
STEP 1:
Place apple slices in a large bowl. Add water until slices are covered: add juice from lemon.
STEP 2:
Whisk together brown sugar, flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and nutmeg in a medium bowl. Drain apple slices; add sugar mixture to apples and mix until apples are evenly coated.
STEP 3:
Line 9 - inch pie plate with one pie crust. Press onto bottom and up side, leaving ½ overhang.
STEP 4:
Place dulce de leche in a microwave- safe bowl. Microwave on high power for 35 seconds or until soft enough to spread.
STEP 5:
Arrange one- third of the apple slices in a circular pattern in the pie crust. Spread ½ cup dulce de leche over apples. Arrange another third of apples; spread another ½ cup dulce de leche over the apples. Top with remaining apples; spread remaining dulce de leche over apples.
STEP 6:
Cover pie with second crust, pinching edges together. Cut a few vent holes on top of the pie.
STEP 7:
Beat egg and water in a small bowl; brush crust with egg mixture. Mix granulated sugar and remaining ½ teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl; sprinkle over the crust. Plce pie on baking sheet.
STEP 8:
Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 min. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F; bake for an additional 30 minutes or until crust is lightly browned.
